One for Friday: Happy Monsters, “Clap Your Tentacles”
I did something sorta crazy at the other site, so “One for Friday” will need to be an afterthought this week. To better understand the craziness linked to below, look to the fine people that I swiped it from. I’ll do better next week. Happy Monsters, “Clap Your Tentacles” (Disclaimer: Seriously, I got nuthin’.) Continue reading One for Friday: Happy Monsters, “Clap Your Tentacles”
Seems like I’m caught up in your trap again, seems like I’ll be wearing the same old chains

Confessions of a Comics Reader: The Relapse!
Last summer I regaled the online community with my sad tale of a childhood habit transformed into a lifelong obsession. #35 — Brick (Rian Johnson, 2006) Sometimes movies use dialogue to capture how we do talk, wallowing in the stammers, the pauses, the redundancies. False starts and restless thinking out loud intermingle, obscuring the exposition and banter while also lending … Continue reading Top Fifty Films of the 00s — Number Thirty-Five

Great Moments in Literature
“I tried to give advice, I really did. Nothing too complicated. Like, Stop hollering at strange girls on the street, and don’t bring up the Beyonder any more than necessary. Did he listen? Of course not! Trying to talk sense to Oscar about girls was like trying to throw rocks at Unus the Untouchable. Dude was impenetrable. He’d hear me out and then shrug. Nothing else has any efficacy, I might as well be myself.” –Junot Diaz, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, 2007 “NEVER HAVE I HEARD SUCH WORDS…SENSED SUCH COURAGE…OR KNOWN THIS STRANGE FEELING…THIS NEW EMOTION…! THERE … Continue reading Great Moments in Literature
One for Friday: Hedwig and the Angry Inch, “Wig in a Box”
Yesterday, I wrote some unkind things about the central Florida city that was my home for six years. In the interest of equal time, I should allow that there were plenty of places down there that we did like, that, in fact, I’ve missed since we’ve moved on. There are some good bars, BBQ shacks, and at least one constantly evolving coffee shop. There’s also a very nice movie theater that was our first real exposure to the sort of full-service evening out that is becoming more common in the land of moviegoing. The Enzian was probably the first place … Continue reading One for Friday: Hedwig and the Angry Inch, “Wig in a Box”
The chest that once was full of hope is now a box of memories
My oh my, it’s been quite some time since we’ve dived into this: For the uninitiated, this is a box of mementos that I’ve been dragging around for years. Some time ago, I decided it was time to get rid … Continue reading The chest that once was full of hope is now a box of memories
