This little dog pictured above is doing much better.
A week ago, Radley had to go into the vet for surgery. Emergency surgery is an accurate term, I suppose, though “unexpected surgery” seems more appropriate for the situation. We were fortunate enough to be able to wrangle enough time away from our respective workplaces to spend extra time at home last week, keeping a close eye on his to be sure the recovery went smoothly. Despite how the picture makes it appear, his energy has been coming back–it’s been tricky once or twice to get him to realize that wrestling with Nola is not a good idea just yet–and he’s been edging back to his normal self. He will be on prescription food from here on out, and treats are entirely a thing of the past, but the controlled diet should prevent him from having to go through this again.
He gets his sutures out on Saturday. We’re hoping that he rebounds from that quickly, if only out of consideration for the dogsitter who encounters him a few days later.

So happy to read this! Give him a big old theoretical hug from me.
No treats, though? How sad! Can you use bits of his food as treats, perhaps? Or something like tiny ice cubes? Crazy as it sounds, if you find the right shape of ice for the particular dog, most of them go nutso crazy about ice cubes…didn’t believe it til I saw it, but it’s true. 😉
We’ve tried the bits of food method in the past and he sees right through it. I tried giving him a piece earlier and he spit it right out, despite the fact that he gobbled it down happily when it was his dinner.
He’s an odd little dog.
Maybe we’ll try the ice cube idea.
