This week, I had the chance to write about one of those dark indie sensations with the stuff to become an instant cult classic. This is exactly the sort of film I would have probably missed out on without this side writing gig, so it was a nice reminder of the ample perks that go along with the banging out a few hundred words a week for the site.
I also contributed to a feature about the best movies of the past ten summers, getting a welcome opportunity to profess my affection for Toy Story 3. I would, however, like to note that all the movies were preselected by some combination of members of the editorial team, but I wasn’t one of them. This is my way of assuring you that I do not think, by any stretch of the most generous imagination, that Mission: Impossible III was the best movie of the summer of 2006. Indeed, I’d say it’s a prime candidate for a certain feature that occasionally pops up around here. I don’t want to disparage the taste of any of my cohorts over at Spectrum, but some things cannot stand without commentary.
