Beers I Have Known — Toppling Waters Barrel-Aged Stout

This series of posts is dedicated to the many, many six packs, pony kegs and pints that have sauntered into my life at one point or another.

When I moved back to the Upper Midwest, there were several breweries I was delighted to have ready access to. Wisconsin’s Central Waters and Iowa’s Toppling Goliath were both high on that list. That the breweries recently came together for a collaboration, and that the collaboration is a thick, heavy stout aged in bourbon and maple barrels for two years, is the stuff of enraptured fever dreams. That I have a skilled-beer-hunter friend who flipped opened the top of one of these hard-to-acquire treasures and poured me a glass is a sign that somewhere in the vastness of the universe Odin himself is apparently looking out for me.
