Texas Tortures Pregnant Women Who Need Care by Michelle Goldberg

Writing for The New York Times, Michelle Goldberg recounts the experience of several Texas women whose medical emergencies were made more dire by the deliberately vague and proudly cruel anti-abortion laws enacted in Texas. These scenarios weren’t a shock. Rather, there were accurately foreseen by those who understand the multitude of ways practices opposed by ignorant reactionaries are utterly necessary to save lives in modern health care. The zealots don’t care. Worse yet, I’ve little doubt that many of them actually take a vicious satisfaction from the fact that women are unduly suffering.

I Live In A Joe Pavelski Household Now by Ray Ratto

As genuinely entertaining as Ray Ratto’s is in this piece, I must concede that I really connect to it because of my emotional ties to the City of the Wonderful Water and its nearby neighbor. Future Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Pavelski is the favorite son of Plvoer, Wisconsin, as the municipality demonstrates with official signage. Thus, like Ratto’s family, I have a rooting interest in his success. This article is published by Defector.

  1. Hi Dan, it is Patrick Downing, class of ’16, how could you forget. You have a really good memory. Aside from your film reviews, Outside Reading is what I look forward to most. I love hockey. It really keeps me going. I cannot wait to read the article of Joe Pavelski, hall of famer for sure. Did not know he was from Plvoer (pronunciation?). Thank you for your blog and work. Please keep it going.

    1. Of course I remember! Thanks, Patrick! I’m glad to know you’re still checking in here. Sorry I’ve been a little errant on movie reviews lately. I’m trying to catch up.
