On “Build a Bridge,” the new track from Chicago band Deeper, sometimes I swear I hear a Minutemen influence coming through. Then I become convinced that I’m hearing some of the slicked up authority that distinguished the first album by the Killers. And then a batch of other indie-inclined comparisons spring to mind, all in the span of a tight three and a half minutes. In the end, I realized what it really sounds like is a Deeper song, and it’s worthy of being put on repeat.

Careful!, Deeper’s first album on the Sub Pop label, is scheduled for release in September.
