The next Guided by Voices album, Welshpool Frillies, is scheduled for release in July. It is their second full-length album this year. They also released two studio albums last year and two the year before that. They released three studio album in both of the two years preceding that, so they’re actually slowing down a bit in advance of commemorating their fortieth anniversary as a band later this year. With occasional help from his bandmates, frontman Robert Pollard writes all the songs on those albums, and he’s been doing it with similarly prodigious output for the whole run of Guided By Voices. That he still has any ideas left for songs is impressive. That he can instill uncork a scorcher is downright miraculous.
