TCM Fans Are Right to Worry by Josef Adalian
It was probably inevitable that the rampage of the wrecking ball serving as Warner Bros. Discovery CEO would eventually reach Turner Classic Movies, the one network that deserves to be part of the National Historic Landmark program. News came this week that top leadership in place in TCM for decades was being let go, as was more then seventy-five percent of the current staff. Reportedly, the programming is set through September, so enjoy the next three months, including the always well-curated Star of the Month event). Writing for Slate, Leah Litman offers scathing analysis of one of the latest wrongheaded legal decisions from the Supreme Court of the United States. That the decision was authored by Clarence Thomas brings up another specific injustice. Given the mounting evidence that Thomas and some of his fellow robed grand decreers have been gladly soaking in the strategic largesse of politically motivated tycoons and lying about it on documentation meant to preserve the ethical soundness of one of our most important pillars of government, why are they even allowed to rule on any of these questions at this point?
