On her new track, “Don’t Forget Me,” Maggie Rogers follows the turn of her windy artistic road that leads her into country crooning territory. The lyrics consider what it’s like to watch friends move on to more settled relationships from the vantage of living within lingering youthful freedom and impulsiveness (“Can’t imagine what would happen/ cause I’m still acting out of habit/ Hoping dirty words just don’t escape my teeth”). Atop a tune that could have come from the most recent albums by Jess Williamson or Amanda Shires, Rogers sings the lines with a little bit of yearning and whole lot of tender truth. The song comes on like a cool, cleansing breeze.
Don’t Forget Me, the new album from Rogers, is scheduled for release in April.
