“It’s been a long day take off your shoes/ It’s been a hard year I’m talking to you/ Are we gonna make it cos I have to/ I don’t wanna be here but I do.”
“Hammer,” the new track from Los Angeles indie rocker Hana Vu, moves with the steady thrum of necessary, weary perseverance that feels like the spiritual truth shared by everyone who’s actually paying attention as we close in on wrapping up the first quarter of the twenty-first century. The song is catchy and tough as it builds and builds, Vu’s low voice giving already weighty lyrics an extra heft. “Hammer” is impressively muscular.
“And I run away cos I ruined mine/ And I fall asleep cos I get so tired/ And it’s hard to say what the trouble is/ I’ll run away til it’s all behind.”
Romanticism, the new album from Hana Vu, is scheduled for release in May.
