I usually spend the week leading up to Friday listening to as many new tracks as I can with the intention of dropping my favorite into this digital space. During the week leading up WWSP-90FM’s Trivia, I’m instead preoccupied with stuffing as much older stuff as possible into my head in hopes that maybe, just maybe, my nostalgic wandering will align with a on-air question in just the right way. In this strange environment I’ve cultivated for myself, a new song that’s actually an old song is more likely to grab my attention.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Rebel Yell, his breakthrough release, Billy Idol is releasing a new expanded version of the album. Among the previously unreleased tracks is a demo version of “Flesh for Fantasy” which is far leaner and tougher than the slicked-up, chart-friendly version that wound up on the finished effort. It’s exactly what I need to hear in a week that is all about firing up fifty-four straight hours of hunting for weird little details from movies, television, comics, books, and pop music.

The new deluxe version of Rebel Yell is scheduled for release in later April.
