This Week’s Model — Jessica Boudreaux, “Main Character”

Sometimes I can tell a song is going to be irresistible to me right from the jump. The opening lyrics of Jessica Boudreaux’s “Main Character” are perfectly designed to enthrall my meta tomfoolery–susceptible soul: “I’d love to find a purpose/ I’d love to fill a niche/ And when I finally write this script/ You’re gonna love the overarching themes of grief.” Against music that recalls the scruffy-indie retro stylings of Best Coast and the Raveonettes, Boudreaux continues to playfully evoke twenty-something existential misery by adopting the guise of fictional protagonist in the story that is modern living. It’s piquant and perfect.

The Faster I Run, the debut solo album from Jessica Boudreaux, is scheduled for release in July.
