This Week’s Model — Hinds, “The Bed, the Room, the Rain and You”

The band Hinds perform live on stage

The Spanish band Hinds was formed as a duo back in the day. Carlotta Cosials and Ana García Perrote wanted to make music together, and so they did. By the time they released their 2016 debut album, Leave Me Alone, Hinds had expended to a quartet, and that’s how they proceeded across two more studio full-lengths. Then, at the end of 2022, the band announced that bassist Ade Martin and drummer Amber Grimbergen had exited. Just like that, Hinds was back to being a duo. For now, Cosials and Perrote are keeping it that way.

“The Bed, the Room, the Rain and You,” the new single from Hinds, suggests that the homing in on the longstanding camaraderie between Cosials and Perrote results, at least partially, on songs of uncommon intimacy, vulnerability, and trust. The cut has the dream-pop flow of the Lightning Seeds back in their prime as it delivers lyrics that aren’t exactly profound but carry a relatable lovelorn pang (“A pint with you/ Your eyes are blue/ Let me know where I can find you”). It’s a song to get lightly lost in.

Viva Hinds, the new album from Hinds, is scheduled for release in September.
