It is a marvelous trick to craft a rock song that is intimate and epic at the same time. At this moment, no one does it as well as Porridge Radio. The British band fronted by Dana Margolin demonstrate that adeptness with their newest single, “A Hole in the Ground.”
The track has the casual orchestral richness of Chelsea Wolfe or the War on Drugs, though noticeably scaled back. That touch of restraint allows Margolin to to command the center of the song, as she usually does. She delivers the potent lyrics (“Sky above, sky below/ Five years more of directional love/ Think of me, is that enough?/ Hungry for, hungry for, hungry for, hungry for, hungry for”) with the fiery charisma of Johnette Napolitano back in Concrete Blonde’s heyday. It’s moving and ravishing.
Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, the new album from Porridge Radio, is scheduled for release in October.
