It’s been four years since Kristin Hersh and her cohorts in Throwing Muses released any new music, a drought broken by the lustrous rainstorm that is the new single “Drugstore Drastic.” Neo-folk with a shuffling tempo, the track boasts the same sly invention and offhand catchiness that’s been the group’s hallmark since their attention-getting initial releases. Sometimes the story of a new song is pretty simple: a great band continues to make great music.

Throwing Muses hasn’t announced a new full-length album yet, but it’s surely coming. There’s a tour set for the spring.
