This Week’s Model — Tamino, “Sanctuary”

Tamino has been releasing music at a steady clip since his first EP, which came out in 2017. There have been more EPs and two full-length releases, all of which caught the ear of Mitski. The ever-ascendent performer tapped Tamino to open for her on a stretch of the tour in support of The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We. As long as they were hanging out together, Tamino figured, why not ask Mitski to duet with him on a new song.

“Sanctuary” is a tenderly luxuriant pop song with folk underpinnings. It’s in the mode of Jeff Buckley or Rufus Wainwright, and Tamino’s vocals are smooth enough to merit comparison to those formidable crooners. Mitski’s voices folds in elegantly, as if heaven sent to provide the precise complement needed.

Every Dawn’s a Mountain, the new album from Tamino, is scheduled for release in March.
