The Indianapolis band Wishy made quite the left-of-the-dial splash with the release last year of their debut full-length, Triple Seven. Memories are short in the modern music-biz infrastructure, though, so as the band preps for a late-spring tour with Momma, Wishy have got a new EP to remind the modest masses why they stirred up such excitement in the first place. On the evidence of the tracks dropped thus far, this is not a collection of castoffs. The material unfirmly strong and engaging. That includes the latest single, “Over and Over.” It has a laid-back, scuffling quality that is reminiscent of countless out-of-the-mainstream predecessors and yet is purely, poignantly their own.
The new EP from Wishy, Planet Popstar, is scheduled for release in April.
