I usually select the song that will be embedded in this spot every week by listening to every new single I can find and then listening to the best of them again, making every effort to predict which is so undeniably wonderful that it will still be in heavy rotation in my brain a year later. Sometimes, though, it’s clear to me that I’ve got to select the cool new cover song. Like this week, for example.

Laid is a dark comedy that premiered on Peacock a few months ago, so technically Miya Folick’s cover of the James classic isn’t all that new. It’s been serving as the show’s theme song since then. But it was just released in full and, well, the original looms large in my household. I truly feel this is my only viable choice for the week. Luckily, it’s a dandy choice, too.
