It’s been a couple years since Hannah Jadagu released her debut album, Aperture, on Sub Pop. She’s been busy. The Texas native was toiling away in pursuit of a music business degree at NYU. Just about a month ago, she Jadagu got her paper and was free, which of course led to congratulations and enthusiastic demands that she get back to the making music part of the business.

Genie-like, Jadagu has granted the wish. Her new single, “My Love,” is luxuriant and radiant. It’s neo-soul with a hint of Cocteau Twins swirl and majesty to it, like it’s a buoyant cloud that’s been taffy-spun into a vinyl 45. Jadagu describes it as a straightforward love song about the feelings that arise when navigating a long-distance relationship (“Tell me when you’re coming to stay/ I’m starting to miss not waking up with your face”). The track is alluring, wondrous, and surely the promise of grander triumphs on the way. Her sophomore album is expected in the fall.
