The Chicago band Ganser links arms with their no wave influences on their newest single, the grim groove “Discount Diamonds.” Against a dark disco sound, frontwoman Alicia Gaines locks in with lyrics that mock the tendency of one generation to harrumph about the inadequacies of the next (“And the kids don’t dance anymore”). It’s mordant and intoxicating. Irony that invites edgy shimmying.
Animal Hospital, the new album from Ganser, is scheduled for release in August.
