This Week’s Model — Just Mustard, “Endless Death”

“Endless Deathless” sounds like shoegaze at the midpoint of its evolution into something else altogether. The new single from the Irish band Just Mustard has the buzzy, dreamy quality the defined the subgenre-defining efforts of Ride and My Bloody Valentine back in the days, but there’s something unfamiliar there, too. It’s a little bit of prickliness that seems designed to make the song go down not quite as smoothly as it first seems like it might.

“Said you’re my favourite/ Yeah you’re my favourite/ Say you won’t miss this,” frontwoman Katie Ball sings. With a sound this jarringly good, promising not to miss this band is an easy pledge to make.

We Were Just Here, the new album from Just Mustard, is scheduled for release in October.
