Every once in a while, or maybe even more often than that, a new song comes out that tickles alive the part of my brain that longs for the days of proper college rock, back when the student-run radio station where I toiled was packed with records by acts that could knock out catchy wonders with a straightforward assurance that felt like ease. I’m not referring to the major, college chart–topping artists, either. I mean the Chant, Satellite Boyfriend, the Lime Spiders, and the like.
The new single from the Manchester band Westside Cowboy, “Can’t See,” gives me that happy nostalgic feeling. The song isn’t particularly retro. I don’t know if it’s right to assert that is sounds particularly like those old bands, but it gives me the same feeling. It’s pure and true and chiming and cool. For me, that means it’s also irrresistible.
So Much Country ‘Till We Get There, the new EP from Westside Cowboy, is scheduled for release in January.
