As I believe I’ve acknowledged previously, sometimes all I really need is a chugging, chunky, churning rock song. The drums thump, the bass burrows, the guitars squawk, and the vocals pierce with tuneful attitude. That’s precisely what the British band Lime Garden deliver on the new single “Downtown Lover.” The track is brash, tough, and challenging (“It’s all polite and kindness until It goes my way/ And then you have this look on your face”), and it digs its nails into the chorus like there’s a risk of being flung off into the ocean otherwise. It’s so insinuating that it sometimes feels like it’s one hundred percent hook. Dang, it’s good.
Maybe Not Tonight, the new album from Lime Garden, is scheduled for release in April.
