“Sidestep,” the new single from the South London–based band World News, calls to mind any number of casual rock anthems that my college radio cohorts and I plopped onto the turntable back in the late nineteen-eighties. It doesn’t sound like U2, but it does sound like a lot of amazing bands that got a boost from the popularity of that Irish quartet in the wake of The Joshua Tree. The track shares a vibe with the Call, Hunters & Collectors, and the Alarm. There’s no way I can resist this.
