I can’t properly express how strange and wonderful it is to see the band of bright, boozy hooligans that I call family sitting there in eighth place in this year’s iteration of the World’s Largest Trivia Contest, hosted by my beloved alma mater WWSP-90FM. There are stories to share, but we’ll get to that another day. For now, I will simply state that I am proud to be part of such a crafty crew and deeply grateful to the hard-working student leaders at the radio station who persevered through incredible challenges, the likes of which I never could have imagined years ago when I was in their headphones, to mount this major event.
Although the still fraught circumstances of the pandemic prompted Trivia organizers to forgo to marathon aspect of the contest — opting for overnight breaks rather than pushing teams to keep answering questions for fifty-four hours straight — I still find myself at the other end of the experience feeling mentally exhausted. It’s a blissful exhaustion, but exhaustion nonetheless. So this digital outpost is going to flip over a Gone Fishin’ sign for the remainder of the week. The lights are off until Sunday’s College Countdown post, and then it’s back to daily dispatches.
