This is as it should be. I feel like a band that had its official home base in the same ZIP Code as me (or one of the nearby ones within our shared city limits) should give me this this sort of happy comfort-food tingle. “(With Respect to) Loyal Serfs,” the third advance single Disq has offered up from their forthcoming sophomore album, is meaty, buzzy, and awash in keening cynicism (“Goodnight to planet Earth/ Goodnight to loyal serfs/ Keep up the noble work/ We’ll get what we deserve”). I’m temperamentally inclined to draws a straight, heavily pressed line straight back to the dual deacons of Upper Midwestern malcontents, Hüsker Dü and the Replacements, but I must concede that there’s a fleet of dizzying great artists from the time in between that the track evokes: Built to Spill, Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, and on and on. The lineage is impeccable and the execution is divine.
Desperately Imagining Someplace Quiet, the new album from Disc, is scheduled for release in October.
