“Like I Say (I runaway),” the new track from Nilüfer Yanya, opens with a probing rhythm that seems to draw equally from every tribe on the planet. That’s only the beginning of the rapturous excess. A crashing waterfall guitar line rushes in, and the song moves on to alternate between intricate pop and booming shoegaze fuzz. Yanya’s precise, cloud-light vocals hover above it all, intoning lines that tremor with emotional uncertainty: “‘Cause I feel like all my friends/ They don’t read my mind/ The minute I’m not in control/ I’m tearing up inside.” Like Yanya herself, the track is a powerhouse.

For now, “Like I Say (I runaway)” is a standalone single, but there’s surely a new full-length coming soon. Right?
