Determining the official Song of the Summer has become a bizarrely pervasive pastime. For those, like me, who are exhausted by the prospect of engaging in this debate, Snooper has come to the rescue. The band’s new single, “Recess,” is a sprightly, jubilant mash-up of electronica sizzle and punk sass. The band’s frontwoman, Blair Tramel, says the song is inspired by Lil Mama’s immortal bop “Lip Gloss,” and it moves with a similar schoolyard sing-song energy. It’s reminiscent of the dancefloor invasion Kathleen Hanna and her cohorts in Le Tigre mounted back in the day. The track is an absolute blast. Play it while cartwheeling through the sprinkler.
