This series of posts is dedicated to the many, many six packs, pony kegs and pints that have sauntered into my life at one point or another.
I briefly battled stomach problems when I was in college–undoubtedly somewhat stress-related–and was told by a physician that it would be helpful if I gave up either beer or coffee. I opted for the latter, a choice that seems almost unimaginable to me know, even as I’m a civically-engaged citizen of Beer City, U.S.A. Luckily, I don’t seem to be near being forced to make a similar choice any time soon. Even better, I can sometimes combine my two favorite beverages, or at least enjoy the wonderful concoctions of breweries that have engaged in the mystical mixology for me. Highland Brewing in the granddaddy of the Asheville-based craft breweries, and all the recent competition has absolutely caused them to step up their game. They now create some of the best seasonals in town, including this tremendous porter that features the delectable flavors of Dynamite Roasting, which happens to be my favorite coffee purveyor in town. If it doesn’t fully solidify the value of beer for breakfast, it sure comes in handy during one of my most ridiculous springtime activities where the perfect combination of beer and coffee is key.
