The band Joyer, comprised of brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan, know how to make a drone shimmer. “Star” is the new single from the duo, and it has the slumping, pumping tone that I recall from a bevy of deeply adored college rock songs. There’s a tang of vintage Superchunk to its tuneful disaffection, like there’s nothing more natural than building a hook around the lament “All I do is the dishes these days.” The track is splendidly comfy in its lolling surges.
Night Songs, the new album from Joyer, is scheduled for release in April.
