This Week’s Model — Lowertown, “Worst Friend”

Sometimes I can convince myself that every song that dare call itself indie rock should sound like “Worst Friend,” the new track from the Atlanta duo Lowertown. It’s so ploddingly downbeat that even the moments when the pair jangle up a little more energy feel like little more than slightly emphatic shrugs. Vocalists Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg are in an unofficial competition to see who comes across as more disaffected as they sing lyrics such as “Don’t have any money it’s hard to find a job/ My crazy boss just fired me for nodding off.” It’s perfect. Or, you know, whatever.

Ugly Duckling Union, the new album from Lowertown, is scheduled for release in May.
