“I Wasn’t Fully Cooked,” the latest single from the Montreal-based band knitting, hits in just the right way. It’s got an underlying certainty of purpose that speaks to its creative origins in lead singer Mischa Dempsey’s anxiety about not being properly recognized a nonbinary person. The sound of the track lies somewhere in the netherworld between Hole and Rilo Kiley, and knitting expertly use the soft-LOUD-soft trick to intensify the song’s impact. It might not be the song of summer, but it could the song of summer’s gloomiest thunderstorms.
Souvenir, the new album from knitting, is scheduled for release in July.
