This Week’s Model — The Tubs, “Stoop to Me”

I’ve spent a fair amount of time these past few weeks immersed in the 1991 music releases that could be categorized under the broad heading of alternative rock. More specifically, I’ve been going through the albums that got the most loving attention from the DJs at WWSP90FM, the college radio station where I was a student leader at the time. I think that research and reminiscing contributes to my appreciation of “Stoop to Me,” the new single from Welsh band the Tubs. “Stoop to Me” has a pleasing throwback quality, recalling the era when bands such as the Grapes of Wrath, the Black Sorrows, and Texas cranked out earnest, straight-ahead rock songs that I and my cohorts at the station found irresistible. I can easily imagine this song blaring out of those studio speakers back in the day.

Hard Life, the new album from the Tubs, is scheduled for release in September.
