This Week’s Model — Sadurn, “Never Tell Me”

The Philadelphia-based band Sadurn has a new track out, and it’s got a slow-build structure that I find irresistible. “Never Tell Me” starts simple and small, tender strumming on an acoustic guitar and G DeGroot singing sad lyrics (“Crying, I’ve been crying/ Lying, I’ve been lying/ You know, I don’t wanna believe/ Afraid, I’m so afraid’). And then the song builds, expanding and deepening. The emotions get more intense, the lyrics more detailed, the music fuller and firmer. It’s reminiscent of Wednesday in peak form, and that’s a very high compliment indeed.

The Underworld, the new album from Sadurn, is scheduled for release in October.
