On occasion, I like to fully defer to the artist when sharing one of these songs on a Friday. Lily Konigsberg’s story behind the new track “Free Byrd” is simply too good:

“Free Byrd” was written almost 4 years ago in Central Park on one of those giant rocks. I played it for my friend Greta that same day. When I finished, this high school girl sitting nearby turned around and said, “Is that a real song?” I said, “Yes, but I just wrote it”. And that was “Free Byrd”’s entrance into the world.

That story exemplifies the charms of “Free Byrd”: easygoing, sweet, attention-getting, and light as a summer’s dat in the park.

“Free Byrd” isn’t officially attached to an album yet. Rumor has it that Konigsberg will have news on that front soon.
