“Flush,” the new single from the Brighton-based band Thyla, is about the exploitative nonsense that happens online as bad actors fuel outrage for fun and profit. The very modern concern is given an appealingly retro sonic treatment, playing with the subgenre-straddling pop ingenuity of bands such as Lush back before algorithms encouraged great stratifcation. The song is liberating in more ways than one.

Thyla’s self-titled debut album is schedule for release in January 2022.
